Many counties in the United States are finding that Electronic Document Management (EDM) provides more features for taxpayers while reducing the costs associated with the recording, storing, and retrieval of physical documents.

A common implementation of EDM includes the scanning of recorded documents, electronic searching and retrieval of said documents, and a physical backup such as microfilm.
